Its an absolutely stunning morning - and the great thing about having a room like mine is that you not only get the sun in the morning, but you can watch the seagulls soaring above the chimney tops. They really are unbelievable birds when you look at them.
Anyway, other than staring at seagulls I have been doing some work, a bit of writing (this time Lewis Wilson may actually have something to investigate - its all a lot grittier than my previous efforts), and that sort of thing. Last night James, Tim and I went to see the Director General of the BBC talk a bit about the future of broadcasting. The conclusion, to put it extremely briefly, was that it has one. This is reassuring news. I've also been reading some John Updike short stories. Not only does this fit in snugly with my American Literature module, but also they are just blummin good stories. It seems that Updike absolutely knows what a short story is (paradoxically, it is not really a story that is short, more of a snippet of time, in a particular place, concerning particular people, as opposed to a novel which tends to take a broader sweep of time and place) and rights some incredibly thought-provoking bits of prose. A novel is all very well, but sometimes a short story contains twice as much power. Of course, reading a novel is a completely different experience anyway, because the novel becomes a part of your week or month or perhaps (depending on the speed of your reading) your entire year, rather than just something which you encounter briefly.
Anyway, I am rambling - and I have work to do. Bye!
