I spent yesterday immersed in all things to do with A Midsummer Night's Dream, which was excellent fun. Then in the evening, James and I went to see the new Spielberg film Munich which is not stunning, but it is very good. It raises some interesting questions about the people we love to call monsters without really understanding them, but at the same time it maintains a clear sense of right and wrong...there is always a risk with these things that any actual condemning of violence is lost to an attempt to understand the mind of the perpetrator. It was also interesting to see how the more violent scenes were contrasted with the scenes in which characters are just having a laugh, going to the grocers and that sort of thing. These contrasts made both the violent and the non-violent all the more chilling.
I'm an english student remember. I never just go and see films for entertainment, no matter how hard I try...
I now have a phone again which is remarkably good news, though I think part of me enjoyed my week of relative isolation. Its nice to remind myself once in a while that mobile phones should never be depended upon.
Later today I have a lecture (shock, horror) and will probably find some nice critical essay to read after that.
