Recent thoughts

Recent days have yielded several interesting moments. On Sunday, we mysteriously took to poetry reading in our house, in particular the poetry of Roger McGough. There is no obvious explanation for this, other than to say that it would be nice to think that my influence as a literary student has a lot to do with it.

Yesterday we popped to the hospital where Tim was lying down in a ward looking at the ceiling following an operation on his foot (see my blog entry of a couple of Sunday's ago for the reason behind this) The hospital is very nice indeed, as hospitals go (apparently it has three stars, but I don't think they use the same scale as they do with hotels...it may be nice but it is still a hospital)
Hospitals are very confusing places, but I find it reassuring that everybody seems to know exactly what they are doing. Please note, however, that if you were to ask Tim, he would probably disagree, having stayed there overnight. Consider him more of an authority on these things (the only time I have ever stayed overnight in hospital I was younger than a retired fruit-fly.)

Today I was invited to the Lopes Hall (last years home...good times) formal dinner. It was very nice indeed, myself and other folk from the welcoming team had a nice table to ourselves, and, for some inexplicable reason everybody stood up when us and those on the top table came into the room. All a bit over the top but thats the way of these things.
The total number of times the fire alarm went off during this one meal was far greater than average...two. Helpfully, it was raining at the time, and was also very windy. So we all came back literally dripping wet for dessert. Apparently the alarm went off because water leaked through the roof and set one of the sensors off. Beats leaves on the line, anyway...
