I have been spending all week up to this morning tackling some fairly tricky old essays. So it was with some pride that I handed them in this morning. I haven't quite been working solidly over the last few days though, It was nice to have a bit of a break at Lucy's birthday party on Wednesday and Nice Man George's birthday party last night. It was also nice to get back a middle english translation coursework and find my mark was nice an respectable. I was so pleased in fact, that my legs took me to near Reed Hall to take some photos of the snow. One of which appears here.
It was some time over the last few days that I finally decided to officially change my name to Dave. To most people I am already Dave, but to a few stragglers I am known as David, a name which has far too much weight to it for my liking. So now on all official forms on which it won't get me arrested for fraud, I am going to make myself known as Dave.
It has been snowing recently, which is exceptional not only because it is November, but also because this is Exeter. It didn't settle long, but it did add a certain atmospheric edge as I went round the houses on Herschell Road inviting people to the carol service at the football stadium a week on Monday...
This afternoon, James and I had one of our cultural moments and went to the museum again. There was a blummin exciting exhibiton about sea monsters. The highlight for me was the bit where you could stand in front of a blue screen and you appeared on the TV next to lots of very large and threatening prehistoric sea creatures. I would not describe this as educational, but it was good craic nonetheless.
There was also a little exhibion about the history of Exeter Uni. I was particularly fond of the archive footage of students from the fifties talking about the relative merits and disadvantages of allowing girls into Duryard halls. I also found the girl standing at the fresher's fair and encouraging students not to sign up to any socities because it would prove detrimental to their degrees highly amusing.

Having read all the reports of snow in the UK, especially my beloved Wales, I have felt slightly envious of the festive nature by which December is comeing around. Having just spent thanksgiving week lying on the beach in Miami with temperature in the high 20's I feel very un-christmassy.
