Its amazing how much of interest there is to be gained in one simple walk to town. This afternoon after a lecture from Eddie 'doesn't look a thing like Hugh Grant get your eyes tested' Jones, I popped to town, mainly with a view to purchasing Lucy's birthday present for tommorow (the exact nature of which will remain a secret, lest she read this before the great dawn arrives). On the way I was mildly amused by probably the poshest sounding student I have ever encountered in my life. I slowed down a little, in case I might learn something from his conversation. I then realised that this broke just about every rule in the respectable englishman's book, and sped up again.
Anyway, a little while later I found an extraordinary tree which is pictured here. The reason it is extraordinary has nothing to do with the fact that it is on its side. This is just because I couldn't be bothered to correct the angle. No, if you look very carefully, you will notice that the tree has very green leaves on one side, then in the middle sort of autumnal orangey leaves, and then bear branches on the edge. It is a tree which encompasses three seasons at once. I was so surprised by this I decided to take a photo of it. I would like to think that insodoing I drew the attention of several passers by towards this arboreal phenomenom.
The final incident came when I was innocently purchasing some socks (much needed, I might add) I went to the cash desk and presented my socks to the cashier. She asked me if they were a christmas present. Thinking she was just being friendly I replied 'no', and thought to myself how silly it was to think I would want to give three pairs of plain black socks as a Christmas present. I then looked up and it appears I may have got some sort of discount if I had only uttered the word 'yes'. Of course, this would have been lying, so actually I suppose all was for the best. I then stooped to pick up my bags and the next lady in the queue sternly told me not to walk off with her 'hockey stick'. I assured her that this intention had never crossed my mind.
